Other Hobbies

There's time for other things beside wood turning!

Two wheel skateboarding. 2 wheel skateboarding. My latest project which I have been riding around the neighbourhood on is a caster skateboard that I built from casters which have been retrofitted with rollerblade wheels. The action is similar to that of a snowboard but the tarmac is harder than snow...

Table Tennis. Anyone for a game?

Biking. I have made several "recumbent" bikes and enjoy riding them. Very comfortable!

Canoe building and wilderness camping. I recently completed a 13 foot redwood strip canoe based on the Hiawatha design from Ted Moore's book. Nice canoe but a little short. Also making/made a Kayak for my daughter. (Cape Charles design.)

Windsurfing and building my own windsurfers. Kingston is a great place for sailing. Also trying some Kite boarding.

Snowboarding and building my own snowboards. Though I have not made a snowboard for some time. The commercial price just came down so much it is not worth the effort to make them.

Potting. Throwing pots is a lot more efficient way to make vessels than hollowing out hunks of hardwood. But this is a winter activity. I must admit that I have not thrown any pots for several years now as too many activities were demanding my time. Sometime I intend to put up a pottery gallery too.

Puzzles, mechanical. Oh I do enjoy a good mechanical puzzle. One of these days I will add some to the website.

Writing. I enjoy writing but seldom seem to have enough time for it.

More personal stuff:

I'm married and have three grown children and three grandchildren. My son's cat "Babs" lives with MIL since Rob cannot have pets where he lives and we roam a lot. I'm proud of my children and their accomplishments - none of them have had it too "easy." This is good for character building. "An easy childhood is a poor preparation for life."
