Above. Once the falsefaceplate has been attached use its centre to scribe a circle to saw out the blank. Or use the bandsaw circle cutter

Using a large Forstner bit.

-Make wood false faceplates from hardwood

-Make starting holes in bowl blanks and eliminate the use of screwed on faceplates.

-Make lathe accessories such as sanding disks.

So you finally put out the big bucks for that super strong wood chuck.

In my case it is a One-Way Stronghold. And it does do a great job of it, and is very convenient to change what it holds. So it has been a natural progression to go to holding more than just wood turnings.

 

Above. Using a large Forstner bit to drill a hole in a false faceplate which is made of hardwood. This block is then set in the chuck and trued up. The wood falsefaceplate is glued to the back of plates or bowl blanks with hot-melt glue. Apply the glue to the falsefaceplate (rather than the object you are turning) using three or four blobs - not spread out.
